New project to specify the characterization of analog professional audio interfaces

The AES SC-05-05 Working Group on Grounding and Electromagnetic Compatibility Practices, chaired by Anthony Kuzub of the CBC, has started a new project to specify the characterization of analog professional audio interfaces.

The X152 project will develop a standard method for characterizing analog professional audio interfaces and for the specification of these quantities in product data sheets.  Particular attention will be paid to Input and output specifications such as drive circuit type, receiving circuit type, Impedance, sensitivity, maximum amplitude and grounding, including compatibility with existing standards such as AES48 and AES54. The group  will look for commonalities among analog professional audio interfaces and create a template usable in published manuals and datasheets.

The resulting document will enable users of professional audio equipment to predict the behavior of devices as they come together to form a system.  A common presentation language will give designers and installers the information required to properly interconnect devices.  Users will be able to optimally connect devices based on specifications and reduce trial and error.

The Working Group is soliciting input and participation by all interested parties.   If you would like to participate, sign using the link below.

AES-R19 / AES67 PICS summary database growing

The AESSC online database of AES67 Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) Summaries now contains 30 entries from 6 different manufacturers. They help users quickly assess interoperability capabilities between AES67 implementations.

An AES67-2018 Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) documents the capabilities of an AES67 implementation.  A PICS covers all aspects of AES67 standards compliance and runs to some 25 pages.  AES-R19 describes a two page summary of the primary options and interoperability points documented in a completed PICS.

Manufacturers are encouraged to submit their PICS summaries for inclusion in the database.

Instructions for submissions can be found at the bottom of the PICS database webpage

Project to specify a common way to control routing of AVDECC/Milan audio streams launched

AES-X252, a project to specify a common way to control routing of AVDECC/Milan audio streams using an adaptation of the AES70 CM3 feature set, has been started.  It will be developed in SC-02-12-L under the direction of co-chair Morten Lave.

The document will specify a common way to control routing of AVDECC/Milan audio streams using an adaptation of the AES70 CM3 feature set.  The document will also define a programmatic interface between AES70 and AVDECC software drivers that is suitable for implementing the defined adaptation.

The industry will benefit from having one unified layer 3 method of controlling connection management of media streams regardless of the media transport and independent of the protocol layer used for the media transport.

Interested parties may join the SC-02-12-L task group and participate remotely via teleconference and receive updates by email.

Call for Comment on DRAFT AES60id-xxxx - AES Information Document for audio metadata - Core audio metadata

The Call for Comment on DRAFT AES60id-xxxx, "AES Information Document for audio metadata - Core audio metadata" was published 2020-03-03.

This specification addresses the creation, management and preservation of material that can be re-used as originally produced, or may provide input material for new production projects. Material is expected to be exchanged between various organisations or between production facilities in a distributed environment..

The core set of metadata presented in this specification is a co-publication of EBU Tech3293-2019 EBUCore, itself an extension to and a refinement of the Dublin Core. EBUCore is a minimum list of attributes characterizing video and / or audio media resources. An XML representation is used as this is the likely method that metadata would be implemented, for example in archive exchange projects using the Open Archive Initiative's Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

Call for Submission of AES-R19 / AES67 PICS Summaries

The AESSC is creating a database of AES67 Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) Summaries. Though neither precise nor complete, they help quickly assess interoperability capabilities between implementations.

Manufacturers are encouraged to submit their PICS summaries to the AES Standards Secretariat for inclusion in the online database hosted by the AES.  Submissions should be sent to standards@fjhysmx.com.

The PICS database may be viewed here

AES74-2019 - AES standard for audio applications of networks - Requirements for Media Network Directories and Directory Services has been published

AES74-2019, "AES standard for audio applications of networks - Requirements for Media Network Directories and Directory Services" was published 0n 2020-02-21.

This document sets forth technical recommendations for media network directories and directory-related services and mechanisms such as network discovery.  It is hoped that this document will inform future industry directory and directory services standards that cover at least the following topics:

1. Registration, query, and administration protocols;

2. Security mechanisms;

3. Directory data model;

4. Query language and related semantics; and

5. Scalability strategies.

This document was developed in the SC-02-12-N task group on AES67 development under the leadership of Jeff Berryman.  The document includes contributions from the OCA Alliance Technical Committee and SMPTE TC34cs.

Project to analyze the AES74 conformance of current media network directory schemes launched

AES-X251, a project to analyze the AES74 conformance of current media network directory schemes, has been started.  It will be developed in SC-02-12-N under the direction of chair Jeff Berryman.

The task group will survey both standards-based and non-standards-based directory/discovery systems and will report a summary of the results.

The report will inform future directory implementations, hopefully rendering them more powerful, versatile, scalable, and easy to use.  This should lead to increased interoperability of media network products in the long run.

The results will be of use to media network designers and users, and media network equipment manufacturers. Draft copies of the report will be circulated to the proponents of the surveyed directory schemes for comment.

Interested parties may join the SC-02-12-N task group and participate remotely via teleconference and receive updates by email.

IEC 62942:2019 "File format for professional transfer and exchange of digital audio data" published

男女做爰高清免费视频IEC 62942, "File format for professional transfer and exchange of digital audio data", was published in December 2019. It is primarily intended for audio applications in professional recording, production, post-production, and archiving.  Edition 1 2019-12 is based on and compatible with AES31-2-2019.  It is also compatible with variant specifications including EBU Tech 3285, ITU-R BR.1352-3-2007, and the Japan Post Production Association's BWF-J.

男女做爰高清免费视频This document contains the specification of the broadcast audio extension chunk and its use with PCM-coded audio data. Basic information on the RIFF format and how it can be extended to other types of audio data is given in Annex E. Details of the PCM WAVE format are also given in Annex A.  An optional extended format, BWF-E, supports 64-bit addressing to permit file sizes greater than 4 GB.

This is the result of much effort by the SC-02-08 Working Group on Audio-File Transfer and Eschange, led by chair Mark Yonge.

AES Standards SC-03-12 Working Group on Forensic Audio is restarting

The AES Standards Committee has decided to restart its Working Group on Forensic Audio.  The initial project, led by John Hansen of the US NIST OSAC – SPEAKER Committee, is to establish the OSAC SPEAKER “AUDIO COLLECTION GUIDELINES” as a standard.    Now that the Working Group on Forensic Audio has been re-established it may also pursue development of standards in other areas of Forensic Audio.

AES Standards Working Groups meetings are held electronically on a schedule determined by the group and also typically meet physically twice per year at the Society's conventions in the US and Europe. It is also possible to participate in the biannual physical meetings through electronic means.   Much of a groups work is accomplished by email and documents presented to or generated by the group are kept in an online document repository accessible by group members.  There is no fee to be a member of an AES Working Group, nor do you have to be an AES member.
